Frequently Asked Questions

Is this location still called Mid America Recycling, or has the name changed to Schupan?

Schupan & Sons acquired Mid America Recycling in March 2022. The facility may still appear under the Mid America Recycling name in some directories; the physical address — 2744 E Market Street, Des Moines — remains the same.

Can Des Moines residents drop off recyclables here even if they have curbside pickup?

Yes. The facility accepts public drop-off during its weekday hours (Mon–Fri 7 AM–4 PM). This can be useful for items like cardboard or glass that some curbside programs don't collect.

Does this facility accept Iowa bottle-deposit containers for refund?

Schupan's network handles beverage deposit containers, but Iowa's bottle bill operates separately from Michigan's. Call (515) 265-1208 to confirm whether this location redeems Iowa deposit containers before making a trip.
