Recycling in Moncks Corner: A Local Guide
Moncks Corner, the seat of Berkeley County in South Carolina, is home to Berkeley Scrap Metal, a locally operated scrap-metal buying yard at 1190 Ben Barron Lane that has served the community since 1978.
Berkeley Scrap Metal accepts a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous metals from the general public: copper (all grades, including wire), brass, aluminum (sheet, cans, rims), radiators, stainless steel, lead, batteries, rims, transmissions, electric motors, starters, alternators, transformers, cores and scrap steel/iron. The yard pays cash for all accepted materials using certified on-site scales — there is no drop-off fee. Pricing is not posted online, so calling or emailing ahead before hauling a load is recommended. A junk car pickup service is also available; contact the yard at (843) 761-8471 or bsmetal2008@gmail.com to schedule and get a quote.
For industrial and commercial customers, Berkeley Scrap Metal offers container services including open-top trailers, lowboy/flatbed trailers and roll-off containers. Note that South Carolina law requires sellers of catalytic converters to provide identification and documentation of ownership; the yard's official website references this requirement, so bring proper ID if dropping off converters. Hours are Monday–Friday 8:00 AM–4:30 PM and Saturday 8:00 AM–3:30 PM; the yard is closed on Sundays. Holidays may affect hours — always call ahead.
