The Dorchester County Highway 61 Convenience Site — also known as the Sprucewood site — is a staffed, county-operated drop-off facility at 1344 Beech Hill Road in Summerville, serving Dorchester County residents six days a week. It is one of the county's most material-diverse sites, uniquely accepting electronics (e-waste), antifreeze, oil/gasoline mixtures, glass bottles and jars, plastic bottles and jugs, mixed paper, aluminum and steel cans, batteries, cardboard, cooking oil, household garbage, and used motor oil and filters — all at no charge to residents. County policy restricts use to Dorchester County residents; proof of residency may be required, and commercial or contractor waste is strictly prohibited.

Are tires still accepted at the Hwy 61 site?

No. As of August 1, 2026, the Hwy 61 site is no longer listed among Dorchester County's tire drop-off locations. Residents should bring tires (no rims, limit 4 per visit) to Miles Road (130 Suburban Lane, Summerville), Sandy Pines (374 Sandy Pines Lane), Campbell Thicket (258 Campbell Thicket Road, Ridgeville), or St. George (5365 Jim Bilton Blvd).

Can residents from outside Dorchester County use this site?
