Frequently Asked Questions
Can I drop off recyclables at the WM Twin Cities Recycling facility on Broadway NE?
This facility is a commercial Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) — an industrial sorting plant for hauled loads — not a public walk-in center. Call (952) 388-0750 before visiting to confirm whether any public access is available. Minneapolis residents can also contact Hennepin County Public Works at 612-348-3777 for confirmed public drop-off sites.
What is a Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) and how is it different from a drop-off recycling center?
A MRF is an industrial facility that receives, sorts, and bales large volumes of mixed recyclables delivered by collection trucks. They operate with heavy equipment and safety restrictions that generally prevent direct public access. Public drop-off recycling centers, by contrast, are set up to receive materials from individual residents.
Where can Minneapolis residents drop off recyclables near Northeast Minneapolis?
Hennepin County operates the HWPM drop-off facilities and publishes a recycling locator at hennepin.us. You can also call Hennepin County Public Works at 612-348-3777. The City of Minneapolis provides curbside recycling pickup on a scheduled basis for most residential addresses.
